Introduction.

Hi internet surfers and thank you for checking out my blog (whether intentionally or not!)
This blog is basically about me (that's Katie Morley) learning how to play guitar from scratch!
This is the first blog I've ever done, so be patient with me as I not only learn how to play guitar but also how to be a blogger!

Now seems like as good a time as ever to introduce myself, as all that prior spiel doesn't actually do that properly I've realised! So...
My name is Katie Morley, I'm 20 years old and am currently a student at university of Hull, just finishing my first year of French with Business. I'm a passionate linguist with a profound love for the french language (I hope to be playing Michelle by The Beatles by the end of all this as just as an example!)
However this year has been my first in studying business, as I don't have GCSEs or A levels in it. So far so good it would seem!
I'm orginially from a beautiful, picturesque but miniscule village called Scorton, in Lancashire (North West England) but decided to attend University of Hull after falling in love with the place on it's open day, so most of my time is spent on the opposite side of the country!

I suppose the best way to start is by giving a bit of background. One of my personal ambitions that I started with when first coming to university was to meet someone who could teach me how to play guitar! Something which came about suprisingly easily(!) in the form of one of my now closest friends, Dominic Waters.
Dom and I have lived in the same block, in halls of residence, this year and have got closer and closer as the year has gone on (you should be able to see the back of his head in my profile picture! Hehehe). We are sharing a house next year with 2 other people, and I can easily say he is now one of my bestest and closest friends!
Given that this blog has got a bit of a music theme, it seems appropriate to tell you all about the moment we became friends. During Freshers Week (2013), he heard me listening to Show of Hands, and asked if it was the band he thought it was that was playing! Prior to this, I'd never met anyone else who'd heard of this band! So I knew instantly we were going to get on! (In case you wanted to know, I first heard of Show of Hands, when I got a CD with Mojo magazine with Harrison covers on it - I think it was his 10 year anniversary - and they had done a cover of If I Needed Someone. I'd encourage you all to check it out if you don't know it already, as it's a fantastic cover in my opinion! You can guess that I am a big Beatles fan! And you would be right to say so! I say that they are my number 1 favourite band! My second most favourite being the Red Hot Chili Peppers and thirdly Seasick Steve! Although I do like a variety of artists and genres!)
Since that moment, I have nagged and nagged Dom to teach me and I finally had my first lesson last week! Dom is also into his languages and did French up to A level. So our original plan, which we were going to carry out next year, seeing as we are living together, was that he would give me a guitar lesson and I would help me keep up his french. Although I've got to say, he really doesn't need it! At times, I feel like he's more capable at french than I am! - And I'm the one doing the degree in it!
So instead this blog is now just mine and you'll read all about my struggles and hopefully triumphs in learning guitar! Dom will be mentioned regularly in this blog however, as he is my teacher after all! We do have conversations in french from time to time and I do test him on his grammar! So who knows this blog may also feature some french learning in it as well. Maybe some new phrases we've learnt or study tips for instance...On verra!

I must apologise as I didn't expect this first post to be so long!! - whoops! So I feel I should call this post "introduction" and stop boring you all! I'll put my first guitar lesson as a second post!
Thank you again for reading my first blog! I really appreciate it!

Katie xxx
